And emotionally? It’s a built-in stress reliever. It develops a quiet mind, helps encourage deep and smooth breathing, and overall makes life feels a little more manageable.

Yogic wisdom talks of siddhis, or sanskrit for “accomplishments” or “supernatural powers” that can be developed with rigorous spiritual practice.

These powers are thought of a sort of side-effect (if you care to believe this) of advanced meditation, breath control, asna and other physical austerities (such as sleep control, abstention from food, retention of the vital body energies) and spiritual practice. But the “powers” were never the end goal - just a by-product.

They are detailed in various yogic texts. Here is a list of some of some of the most “powerful”.

Anima or the ability to shrink to the size of an atom. IMO this is how I feel when I am in the pause between the inhale and the exhale - I have a sense of disappearing. Sounds whacky? Try it!

Mahima or the ability to expand one’s body to an infinite size. Again, for me – the pause between the inhale and exhale. I feel like a “filled pot in the ocean”.

Laghima or the ability to become weightless and levitate – IMO in the modern era, Ozempic may get you there faster.
