You might be suffering from inflamm-ageing but help is on its way!
Are you feeling and looking older than you actually are? You are not alone. And no, you do not need surgery or better skin care.
What you might need is a big dose of anti inflamm-ageing. What?
Inflamm-ageing was not in my remit until my very special yoga teacher Cyndi Lee, who flew in from New Mexico to lead a Long Life Yoga workshop in London, explained it.
“It’s a combination of inflammation and ageing…and fortunately, yoga can help us by stimulating a process of hormesis.” If you are wondering what this means, read on.
Hormesis is the act of creating low-level stress in order to reduce inflammation and increase resilience. Yoga can do this!
As an ageing yogi, I took some wonderful and fresh ideas to apply to my practice so it can be anti inflamm-ageing.
And the great news is, if you practice with me, I will pass some of new tools I picked up from Cyndi for our classes together.
One of the The most important actions you can take to fight inflammation and ageing is to keep moving, and keep up with your yoga practice.
Not a fast and furious practice to debilitate you but a considered practice tailored to your needs.
Yoga, if done with the anti inflamm-ageing lens in mind, has many benefits: it will help maintain muscle, boost lung capacity, help fight brain fog, give you a feel-good moment, balance, and good sleep.
Cyndi reminds us that some of the other pillars of longevity are : sleep, nutrition, stress reduction, connection, toxin reduction.
And of course joy span, which to my mind is crucial. Who wants to get old joyless. So keep smiling and practicing your yoga.
